According to the State of Alabama APOST Board, any applicant for Police Officer who has already completed the Alabama Police Academy Training does not have to pass additional tests of any kind. Uncertified applicants for Police officers who have successfully submitted all the requirements for the application will be scheduled to take the physical agility test.

 A copy of your full credit report from all three credit reporting agencies is required to be turned in to the Civil Service Board. Your credit report cannot be attached to your application or emailed. You must submit your full credit report in person or send it via certified mail.

Applications for all positions are always welcome and will be held in the Civil Service office for two years.

You may submit an application for full-time or part-time.

The general application will cover everything except Public Safety.

If you have a disability and/or need assistance completing the application online, please come into the Civil Service office, and the Clerk will be happy to help you.

Some positions require a test, and some do not.

When an applicant successfully passes an examination, he/she is then referred to as a Candidate. Each candidate is then listed on an Eligible Roster, beginning with the top score. The Board certifies the top six scores, and those applications and the test scores are given to the Department Head who has the vacant position.

According to the Civil Service Rules and Regulations, each applicant will be given one-half (1/2) percentage point for each year of experience and each year of college; pertaining to the position for which he/she is applying, with accompanying proof of grade or a copy of the certification/diploma.

You must be at least 21 years of age to be a police officer. You must be 19 years of age to be a firefighter, corrections officer, or dispatcher/communications officer.
