AMERICAN LEGION POST 111 HOLDS FLAG PLACEMENT CEREMONY

American Legion Post 111 of Oxford held its annual Flag Placement Ceremony on Saturday, May 18, at Oxford Memorial Gardens.

The ceremony was musically highlighted by Amy Moore, who sang “God Bless the U.S.A.; the Saks High School Brass Ensemble, which performed the “Armed Forces Medley;” the Oxford High School Honors Choir, which sang the National Anthem; and Annie Ingram, who played “Taps.”

The Oxford Police Department Aviation Unit provided a helicopter flyover, and the Alabama Artillery Group sounded a three-round volley. Girl Scout Troops 20108 and 20127 led in the Pledge of Allegiance. The Punishers Motorcycle Club formed a multi-motorcycle motorcade salute to the veterans who are laid to rest at the cemetery.

All those attending and participating were offered American Flags to take and place on the graves of the veterans who are buried at the cemetery.

American Legion Post 111 plans to hold another Flag Placement Ceremony on Memorial Day, Monday, May 27, at 10 a.m. at the Fort McClellan Military Cemetery; the public is invited to attend.
