Bannister Park

A neighborhood park located off Friendship Road, the park is open to all and free of charge. The facility features a lighted walking track and green space to play soccer, Frisbee, and other activities. Bannister Park also features a children’s playground and several benches.

The 300+ acre park features walking and bike trails around a 30 acre lake, an 18-hole disc golf course, a fully accessible Boundless Playground, and is part of the Alabama Indigenous Mound Trail. At Choccolocco Park, you can experience history, recreation, and the most breathtaking sunsets in Alabama!

Oxford Lake & Freedom Park

Oxford Lake is an excellent place for family and friends to enjoy with a .67-mile walking track surrounding the lake along with covered picnic pavilions, a fishing pier, and the Coldwater covered bridge built in 1850. Nearby softball and baseball fields, tennis courts, and the Oxford Civic Center provide plenty of recreational opportunities for you and your family.

Freedom Park features a children's playground, splash pad, and covered pavilions.

Liberty Park

Located at the south end of Oxford Civic Center, Liberty Park memorializes our veterans and first responders.  It features a domed pavilion with benches, a WWII-era cannon, a lighted reflecting pool and fountain, and a natural amphitheater for events honoring those who have served in our military or as first responders.  You will find all branches of service represented at Liberty Park, including POW-MIA and KIA.  We invite you to visit the park and honor all of our local heroes.

The civic center features a multipurpose gymnasium and an abundance of meeting space. You will also find a public swimming pool, 5 Baseball for Youth fields, a 4-field softball complex, a lighted tennis court complex, pickleball courts, and additional tennis courts. There is also a children's playground, 9 covered picnic pavilions, a fishing pier, batting and pitching cages, and plenty of parking for everyone.

Senior Center

Seniors from Oxford attend the center daily to play cards, dominoes, various types of puzzles, and trivia games. They also do crafts and listen to speakers with seniors' interests in mind and to socialize. Lunch meals are provided through a state-wide program through the East Alabama Planning and Development Commission. Meals are $1.00 per day-donations only. Free breakfast is served on Friday morning, sponsored by area businesses.

Baseball

Oxford Baseball for Youth was established in 1960. Oxford Baseball for Youth pays under the Dixie Youth and Dixie Boys Baseball Rules.

Basketball

Oxford Parks & Recreation offers a great youth basketball program for the city’s children and youth. The players practice and play games several times per week at the Oxford Civic Center, Bynum Community Center, and Friendship Community Center. They also travel to nearby Parks and Recreation Departments for games and tournaments.

6-8 years old co-ed
9-10 years old boys
11-12 years old boys
10 and under girls

Youth Flag Football

Oxford Parks & Recreation offers youth flag football programs for six weeks during September and October.

Football games are held at Choccolocco Park on the multipurpose field. They practice and play games against other Oxford teams several times per week.

We offer the following age divisions:
K-3rd grade (Flag Football)
4th-6th grade (Flag Football)

 

Soccer

Oxford Parks & Recreation offers great youth soccer programs during September, October, and November. Games will be played at Choccolocco Park, Oxford Lake, and various locations for older age divisions.

8 and under
10 and under
12 and under

Volleyball

New program! Females in grades 3rd - 6th for the 2023-2024 school year. Most matches will be held at Bynum Community Center. Practice days are Monday, Thursday, and Saturday. Volleyball season is September-October.

 

 

Softball

Oxford Parks & Recreation has a fantastic softball program with hundreds of participants. We offer a girls' league, men's church league, coed league, and a senior league at the Oxford Softball Complex by the Civic Center. 

PARD Girls Softball - We offer the following age divisions:
5-6 years old - Coach pitch
7-8 years old - Coach pitch
9-10 years old - Fastpitch
11-12 years old - Fastpitch

 

Cheerleading

September - October
The child must be 4-12 years old.

Senior aerobics: Free, low-impact class with Lyn Brown (instructor) on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
Day camp: Every summer, spring break, and fall break we offer camps for children ages 6-12.
Tennis: Individual and group lessons for all ages and levels are offered at the 8-court tennis complex.

Events

Senior Adult Day: In February and September, we provide free entertainment and a sack lunch and drink for all senior citizens. Registration begins at 8:00 a.m., and lunch is served at 11:30 a.m. 
Senior Dance: We offer monthly senior dances. During the events, we serve food and have a live band. The admission fee is $5.00 per person.
Lunch Trips: Our “lunch bunch” group meets every month for lunch and shopping at various locations.
Mardi Gras 5K: During Mardi Gras in March, we put together a 5K run for adults and children.
Freedom Festival: Every summer, we have a 4th of July celebration co-sponsored by the Oxford Arts Council. The festival includes parades, antique cars, food vendors, games, and activities for children. Some years, we bring musicians to entertain the large crowds. The spectacular fireworks show takes place at Oxford Lake.
Halloween Carnival: On October 31st, we offer a safe alternative to trick-or-treating. The carnival includes costume contests, hayrides around Oxford Lake, games, candy, and prizes. Carnival is from 4:30 pm to 7:00 pm. Free admission and tickets are 4 for $1.00.
Masters Games of Alabama: The Game's participants came from all walks of life and physical abilities with one common goal - to have fun, exercise, make new friends, and compete in their favorite activities. The Masters Games of Alabama is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting healthy lifestyles for active adults aged 50 and older through social, mental, and physical activities. While the Games provide an Olympic-type atmosphere, the focus is not on competition but on fun and fellowship.

• Yoga: Mondays at 6:15 p.m. - 7:15 p.m. ($10 per class)
Karate: Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Testing on Saturdays. Instructor Mike Mangham offers karate classes for those interested. Participants must be at least 7 years old. The classes cost $45.00 per month.
Bluegrass Jam Session: In our kitchen area, we invite the public to a free and fun jam session on Tuesdays from 4:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Bring your favorite instrument! 
Senior Citizen Volleyball: Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and Sundays from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. (or later) All senior citizens are welcome to play volleyball in our gym. The activity is free so come out and bring a friend! 
Pre-School: Classes are on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8:30 am to noon; For 3, 4, and 5-year-olds. Must be potty-trained. Immunization Blue Slip Required. Space is limited. Call for availability. 256-405-5088. Teacher: Mary Wood. $120 per month. $50 Registration and Supply Fee.
Canasta and Bunco: Bunco is on the first and third Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. and Canasta is on the first Wednesday at 9:30 a.m.
Basketball Instruction: Meet in the gym Tuesdays from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Basketball Free Play: Monday and Wednesday from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Pickleball: Tuesday and Thursday, noon to 5:00 p.m. Friday, 7:00 a.m. to noon.

Events

Easter Egg Hunt: Every year, on Saturday before Easter, we are hosting an Easter egg hunt for children ages 0-12. Make sure to bring your own basket!

The Arc of Calhoun and Cleburne Counties: Every summer, the Arc conducts two 3-week summer camps for special needs children at Bynum Community Center. The Arc of Calhoun and Cleburne Counties is a 501(c)3 non-profit that serves individuals with intellectual /developmental disabilities and their families through support, education, advocacy, and public awareness so that they can reach their chosen goals.
