OXFORD MOURNS OPD LT. TOM BRADLEY

The city of Oxford joins with the Oxford Police Department, as well as the entire community, in mourning the passing of OPD Lt. Tom Bradley.

Lt. Bradley served for 42 years in law enforcement, joining the Oxford Police Department in 2014 where he was most recently assigned to the Criminal Investigations Division. He was also one of the department’s firearms instructors, having earned the “Top Shooter” designation by the Northeast Alabama Police Academy during his academy session, six times during his service with the Anniston Police Department, and twice while serving with the Gadsden Police Department.

Chief Bill Partridge made the sad announcement on his social media page Monday night, Sept. 10, 2024, saying Bradley “exemplified the values we hold dear - courage, commitment, and a profound respect for those he served.”

“His leadership and unwavering dedication inspired countless colleagues, and his presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to work alongside him,” Partridge said.

Many were most familiar with Lt. Bradley having been greeted by him as they attended events at the Oxford Performing Arts Center while he helped provide security for the venue during many of OPAC’s events.

“Tom was a superlative human being and a top-notch professional,” said OPAC executive director John Longshore. “Tom’s warm smile, calm demeanor, and kind spirit made everyone feel welcome and secure. His loss leaves a void that will be deeply felt within our venue’s walls and throughout our city.”

When asked a few years ago what his advice would be to those interested in law enforcement, Lt. Bradley said, “Be prepared to have a thick skin. Know that you will be scrutinized, and know that your reward will come in helping your community to be a better place.”

Fire Chief Gary Sparks summed up the feelings of many after hearing of Lt. Bradley’s passing.

“Tom was one of the good guys,” Sparks said.

The city of Oxford offers its love and support to Lt. Bradley’s family, and honors them for his, and their, sacrifices as he served our city so well.
