Towneplace Suites by Marriott ready for guests

The new 104-room TownePlace Suites by Marriott at 267 Hospitality Way near Publix is now open and ready to host visitors to the Oxford area.

The official ribbon cutting was held on Thursday, June 7.

Owned and operated by RAM Hotels, TownePlace Suites by Marriott will provide rooms designed for extended stays with full kitchens, complimentary hot breakfasts, and free wi-fi.

Ground was broken for the new hotel in April 2022.

RAM COO/co-founder Mitesh Patel said the company builds a lot of hotels, “but this one is special.”

He recalled telling Mayor Alton Craft there was an issue that quickly needed to be cleared to get the hotel open in time for the Talladega race.

“He said, ‘Let’s get it done,’” Patel said. “That’s the attitude that Oxford has. The support we have gotten from everybody in this community has been incredible. We opened in April and captured a 100 percent market share in May.”

RAM CEO/co-founder Rinkesh Patel reiterated the expression of gratitude to the city of Oxford and added his appreciation for the special participation of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation and the Alabama State Historical Commission in helping the project come to fruition.

“The big corporations don’t want to go to small town America,” Patel said. “We love it. RAM wants to go there and we will be there.”

Craft was joined by council member Mike Henderson and state Sen. Keith Kelley to give the official welcome to the new hotel.

“It was several years ago I sat at Hubbard’s Off Main with Rinkesh and told him about the future of Oxford, and he was telling me about the hotel industry,” Craft recalled. “I took all of that to heart and Rinkesh said he was going to open here one day. He has kept his word.”

Craft said he felt it was a great partnership between the city and RAM Hotels and hoped they would “build many more hotels here.”
