OXFORD RESIDENTS JOIN 2025 NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER

Oxford residents gathered in front of Oxford City Hall on Thursday, May 1, 2025, to participate in the 2025 National Day of Prayer. 

This event marked the 73rd anniversary of this national recognition established by the U.S. Congress and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman in 1952. 

The ceremony began with a presentation of the colors by the Oxford Police Honor Guard, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance, special music by the Trinity Christian School Choir, and the National Anthem sung by Tanchra Axles-Fitch of Word Alive Church. 

Mayor Alton Craft read a proclamation recognizing this special day in the city of Oxford. “We owe the Good Lord so much, and to say ‘Thank you’ to Him as a group is very, very special to me,” Craft said. 

Special prayers were offered for government officials by Hobson City Mayor pro tem Freddie Strickland; for the media by Tim Lynch of Meadowbrook Baptist Church; for families by Kevin Jones of Antioch Baptist Church; for churches by Mark Threadgill of First Baptist Oxford; for education by Connie Davidson, a retired Oxford City Schools educator; for businesses by Cohen Davidson of House Counseling; for the military by Navy Quarter Master (Ret.) Marcel Durham; for the police by OPD chaplain Dr. C.O. Grindsted; for the fire department by RMC chaplain Ted Embry; and for the EMS by Lighthouse Church Pastor Garry Burns.
