Choccolocco Monsters become Oxford’s newest champion

The Choccolocco Monsters are preparing their bats for the 2025 season at Choccolocco Park.
They will emerge onto Signature Field as the 2024 Sunbelt Baseball League champions, ready to feed off the cheers, energy, and support of their hometown Oxford fans as they start their chase for another banner year.
That championship season included three SBL All-Stars: DH - Hayes Harrison, SP - Dawson Campbell, and RP - Avery Brown.
Named for a 50-year-old hoax involving an area teen costumed with a cow skull, this set of Monsters became the eighth member of the wood bat baseball league upon the team’s inception in 2021 and began playing during the summer of 2022.
Following a brief detour to Georgia in 2023, the team returned to Oxford in 2024, bringing with it championship play by racking up a 22-9 record under the first-year leadership of general manager Roby Brooks and field manager Ricky Clayton.
Brooks is a part of Oxford baseball royalty having played a standout career at Jacksonville State University; being the brother of Wes Brooks, the former Oxford High School baseball coach who coached the team to two state titles; and recently completing his first spring as baseball coach for Hope Christian Academy guiding that program’s first year to the Alabama Independent School Association playoffs.
The Choccolocco Monsters will begin their defense of the 2024 Sunbelt Baseball League championship with a two-game stand against the Alpharetta Aviators at Choccolocco Park on Saturday, May 31. Games are at 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. Central time.
General Admission tickets are priced at $15 and are available for purchase through the GoFan website or app.
“The city of Oxford is pleased the Choccolocco Monsters baseball team has chosen Choccolocco Park as its home base,” said Mayor Alton Craft. “Oxford is proud that our growing recreational park is now hosting this sporting entertainment experience provided by the Sunbelt Baseball League. We are excited to welcome back all the baseball fans from throughout the region to enjoy our facilities and hospitality.”
The Choccolocco Monsters are another reason Oxford is Alabama at its best!
