City of Oxford evaluates its needs while continuing to expand.
Recently, the city invited the public to participate in a forum and survey as it prepares for the potential of new pedestrian and biking paths to connect the city’s points of interest.

Downtown Oxford has already benefited from infrastructure improvements with improved sidewalks and lighting, and will be continuing with more that will add to those, while improving area drainage.
Recognizing the importance of connectivity, the city continues the process of maintaining and upgrading roads and highways, which have seen continual improvements to handle increased traffic and support economic activities.

Improvements to Leon Smith Parkway and the intersection of Highway 78/Barry Street have already proven to have provided positive traffic flow results, while improvements and bridge replacements are next on deck for Friendship and Airport roads.
Planning for drainage improvement in the Bynum area has begun, awaiting further study and public input.
“The city of Oxford has become a vibrant city that has embraced the challenges and opportunities of growth with steadfast dedication,” said Mayor Alton Craft. “Its evolving infrastructure serves as a testament to its commitment to fostering a community where residents and businesses thrive amidst expanding horizons. The city council and I want to ensure that the city accommodates growth without compromising the quality of life for our residents.”
By investing in infrastructure, fostering community development, and embracing technological innovation, Oxford demonstrates an exemplary model of how a city can adapt to expansion while honoring its heritage and prioritizing its people. Its commitment to progress ensures it remains Alabama at its best.
