Mayor, council members to serve new four-year term

Mayor Alton Craft and council members Phil Gardner, Mike Henderson, Charlotte Hubbard, Chris Spurlin, and Steven Waits, will serve another term in their respective offices.
Because no other candidate positions were filed with the city clerk’s office by the end of the day on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, there will not be a need for a 2025 municipal election.
This will mark the third consecutive term served together by this mayor and city council.
The current term, which began in 2020, was expanded by one year by the Alabama State Legislature in an action designed to move municipal elections to an off-year cycle during odd years. The new term will revert back to four years with the next city election to be held in 2029.
Spurlin, who serves as council president, congratulated his colleagues at the council table on being able to serve the citizens of Oxford for another term during the June 24, 2025 council meeting.
“We may not agree on everything, but I think we work well together,” Spurlin said. “I think the most important part is that we not only have great leadership, but we also have great citizens and great employees. We’re looking forward to four more years.”
A special ceremony marking the new terms of office will be held on July 8, 2025, at the Oxford Performing Arts Center beginning at 6:30 p.m.
