Longleaf Books & Bindery opened its downtown Oxford location with a special ribbon-cutting ceremony hosted by Historic Main Street Oxford on Friday, June 27, 2025.
The new shop, located at 30 East Choccolocco Street, offers a wide array of new, used, collectible, and rare books for purchase, while also providing the unique services of bookbinding and standard/custom leather services.
The mother and daughter team of Cathy Simpson and Sarah Waggoner have been eager to open a business in downtown Oxford, and were quick to move once space became available.
‘I just want to say thank you to the city of Oxford, which has been so great to work with,” said Simpson.
Charlotte Hubbard, owner of the adjacent Hubbard’s Off Main, said she looked forward to working with the newest downtown neighbor.
“We are always looking for ways to partner with our downtown businesses and hope to share information about each other – maybe even putting some books on our tables,” Hubbard said.
“This building has been a police station and a finance company, and has never been decorated like this. I can’t believe it’s this big,” said Mayor Alton Craft. “We thank you for opening your business here, and the city is always here to help in any way we can.”
Longleaf Book & Bindery is open Wednesdays and Thursdays from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m., and Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.
