The citizens of Oxford decked out in their best red, white, and blue for the 41st annual Freedom Festival held at Oxford Lake Park on July 4, 2025.
The traditional parade of kids, cycles, and antique cars – all decked out for the occasion – came to an end at Liberty Park, where the Cheaha Winds Community Band provided a musical soundtrack for the event.
Longtime festival coordinator Pam Harris, of the Oxford Parks and Recreation Department, presided over the opening ceremony during which Mayor Alton Craft offered his welcome and appreciation for those attending and those who worked to make the day possible.
Oxford Arts Council president Cindy Williams presented awards to the winners of the “Oxford…Alabama At Its Best” essay contest and to the best in show winners from the parade.
A full day of activities at the park offered carnival games, a petting zoo, tricycle and bicycle races, swimming at the pool, and a pet show, all of which were complemented by many of the area’s favorite food truck vendors.
The day ended with a spectacular fireworks show lighting up the Oxford skies as the city ended its celebration of America’s 249th birthday.
