Henderson to Receive Alabama League of Municipalities Honor

Council member Mike Henderson will be named a Certified Municipal Official Emeritus by the Alabama League of Municipalities during a ceremony to be held later his fall.

The emeritus designation was earned by Henderson’s many years of activity working with the ALM as Oxford’s representative.

The Alabama League of Municipalities is a nonpartisan membership association of over 450 incorporated cities and towns. Since 1935, the League has worked to strengthen municipal government through advocacy, training, and the advancement of effective local leadership.  The League serves as the primary legislative advocate for Alabama’s municipalities, representing its members at the Alabama Legislature, in Congress, and with numerous administrative agencies.

“You go to classes they offer throughout the year,” Henderson said. “When I first got on council, I began spending a lot of time getting my Certified Municipal Officer designation and advanced designation back-to-back. I thought that was it, but attending the conferences counts as well, and they sent me the notice about my new emeritus status last week. I never pursued this for any honors; I did it simply to better equip myself to serve the citizens of Oxford.”
