Historic Main Street Oxford receives state preservation award; honors work of city maintenance department

Historic Main Street Oxford was recognized for its impactful revitalization efforts at the twelfth annual Main Street Alabama Awards of Excellence Banquet on Thursday, August 21, 2025.

Historic Main Street Oxford received the Excellence in Historic Preservation Award for the successful transformation of the Oxford Railway Depot into Spring Street Station, a project that preserved one of Oxford’s most iconic landmarks while creating new opportunities for dining and events.

Each local Main Street program was permitted to select a Main Street Hero — an individual, business, or organization that has made an extraordinary contribution to their community. At the Toast to Heroes Reception, Oxford’s Maintenance Department was honored for its unwavering support of Historic Main Street Oxford.

“The transformation of the Oxford Railway Depot into Spring Street Station, guided by Charlotte Hubbard’s vision and dedication, is a proud moment for our community, and I am grateful to Main Street Alabama for recognizing this project,” said Oxford Mayor Alton Craft. “I am also especially proud of the recognition given to our Oxford Maintenance Department. Justin, Mason, and Jonathan’s tireless work and commitment truly embody our city’s mission to enhance the quality of life for residents and visitors alike.”

“Historic Main Street Oxford is deeply honored to receive recognition from Main Street Alabama for the transformation of the historic Oxford Railway Depot into Spring Street Station,” said Hunter Gentry. “This project reflects the power of preservation, vision, and community partnership. We are especially proud to honor the Oxford Maintenance Department as our Main Street Hero. Their dedication, teamwork, and tireless behind-the-scenes efforts play a vital role in keeping our downtown vibrant, beautiful, and welcoming.”
