Badges and ice cream mix at law enforcement social

The Calhoun County Chamber of Commerce hosted a community ice cream social on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at Below Zero Creamery at 614 Hale Street. The event was sponsored by the Alabama Law Enforcement Appreciation Foundation and was attended by officers from the Oxford Police Department and the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Department.

Several adults and children gathered at Oxford’s new frozen dessert shop, where they met and spoke with members of the two law enforcement agencies and were introduced to Oxford Police’s newest K-9 officer, Havoc, along with his handler, Officer Miranda Schoering.

Oxford Police Deputy Chief Daniel Phipps said this was a chance for the officers to support a local business and engage in a more personal way with members of the community.

“Having something like this at Below Zero is a great attraction for kids, who in turn bring their parents who can discuss with us any concerns they might have or ideas for things they would like for us to do in the future,” Phipps said. “Below Zero is a locally owned business that is new to the area, and if our presence has brought them a lot of customers, as it appears it has, that’s a good thing for our community.”
