Velocity Doctor swings open the doors of Oxford location

Velocity Doctor opened the doors of its unique softball/baseball training program location in Oxford at 1331 Butler Street during a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday, Sept. 5, 2025.

Whether your goal is to make varsity, earn a college scholarship, or break into the pros, Velocity Doctor offers a training program that mirrors the real demands of elite baseball by developing one’s mind, body, and spiritual life with Christ.

Founder T.J. Dixon has made baseball his life — from high school standout to pro player, Division I coach, and now the driving force behind changing kids’ lives for the better as the Velocity Doctor.

Co-founder Philip Arthurs is a purpose-driven entrepreneur, mindset coach, and devoted family man who brings business excellence and spiritual leadership together under one mission: helping others live boldly, lead well, and glorify God in all they do.

“We don’t want kids finding their identity just playing a sport. We want kids to find their identity in Christ first, and then baseball and softball is just something they kind of do,” Dixon said. “I thought I had made it to the highest level of pro baseball, but there was still an emptiness in my heart until I met Christ. That’s when I started to feel fulfilled.”

“The city of Oxford has welcomed us with open arms and it’s been great to have that family feel in a Christian environment,” Dixon said.

“We teach kids they are Christians first and athletes second,” Arthurs said. “You won’t play your entire life, but you can be an athlete your entire life by taking care of your body, eating healthy, not doing drugs, not drinking, and being a team player. We want to make children God-fearing men and women that enjoy the game of baseball.”

Mayor Alton Craft welcomed Velocity Doctor to Oxford.

“We are glad you are here and greatly appreciate your Christian values. That means a lot,” Craft said. “We appreciate the fact you are willing to help people and having the Lord as part of that program is fantastic.”

Velocity Doctor is open Mondays – Fridays from 3 p.m. until 10 p.m.; Saturdays from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m.; and closed on Sundays.
