Mayor Craft talks to Dearmanville students about government

Mayor Alton Craft spoke at Dearmanville Elementary School on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, as part of the second-grade classes’ series on government.

Craft explained to the students his responsibilities as the mayor of Oxford, how he oversees the many city departments, and the role the city government plays in funding the local schools.

He also took the time to answer several questions – many unique to the age group – about presidents he has known and if the mayor lives in the White House.

“I enjoy getting the chance to talk to students every year,” Craft said. “They are honest about their curiosity, and I’m glad these young people are being given the opportunity to learn about their government, which is preparing them for how they will one day participate in our democratic process.”
