CREATE and C.E. Hanna score big at VEX Robotics competition

The 2026 City of Oxford VEX Robotics competition ended its two-day run at the Oxford Civic Center on Friday, January 23, 2026, with two Oxford schools taking special honors.

The team from C.E. Hanna Elementary School took home the Judges Award for the VEX IQ competition for elementary and middle school students. The Judges Award is presented to a team the judges determine is deserving of special recognition. Judges consider team displays of special attributes, exemplary effort, and perseverance at the event in deciding the winner.

One of the seven teams from CREATE received the Design Award, recognizing an organized and professional approach to the engineering design process, project and time management, and team organization.

Another of the CREATE teams placed second in overall scoring and received the Excellence Award/High School. The award recognizes overall excellence in a VEX Robotics program, combining strong performance in judged categories with high on-field results and demonstrating a well-rounded, high-quality program. It is considered the highest honor at a VEX Robotics competition and qualifies the team to participate in the Event Region Championship scheduled for February 21 and 22 at Beard-Eaves Memorial Coliseum in Auburn.

All students in Calhoun County will have a chance to compete during the second annual Calhoun County Robotics Competition scheduled for Friday, April 10, 2026, at the CREATE Center. V5RC Division Competitions will be held for Grades 7-12 and IQ Division Competitions will be held for Grades 5-8. Registration is free.
