First Cahawba Bank celebrated the opening of its new Oxford branch at 1022 Snow Street with a ribbon-cutting ceremony sponsored by the Calhoun County Chamber of Commerce.
This is the fifth location for the Selma-based financial institution, and the only location currently in East Central Alabama.
First Cahawba Bank promotes its comprehensive banking services, from checking accounts to business accounts, as done using “local decisions” that are “financially and emotionally invested in the community.”
“Our motto is, ‘Banking the way it should be,’” said President/CEO Richard Walters. “We try to do banking with an old-time style. When you come through the front door, you are more than likely to hear someone greeting you by name. That’s the way we want to do it.”
Walters said evolving from their previous loan production office to the new “brick and mortar” bank was a way to “make a statement.”
“That statement is that we are definitely here to stay, and we are definitely here for the community of Oxford and surrounding areas,” Walters said.
Scott James, a local veteran of financial services, is serving as the bank’s city president.
“We are proud to serve you,” James said. “I’ve been a part of this community for a long time and am glad to have this facility here. We hope you take advantage of what we offer and, I assure you, we are going to take care of you.”
Hunter Gentry, Oxford director of economic development and Main Street, delivered a welcome and appreciation on behalf of Mayor Alton Craft. State Sen. Keith Kelley and County Commissioner Danny Shears also offered words of appreciation for the bank’s establishment of its new branch in Oxford.

The Oxford location lobby hours of operation are Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.; Fridays from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.; and closed Saturdays and Sundays. Drive-thru hours are Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. until 5 p.m.
