On the eve of its 10^th anniversary, the 366-acre Choccolocco Park has already become a mecca for baseball and softball tournaments. But like a chameleon, it has the ability to change from the roar of the crowds to the smiles on children’s faces.

Choccolocco Park was built on the grounds of what was once the home of the Muscogee (Creek) Indians, and one can take a leisurely walk around the 33-acre lake on a unique interactive trail where their rich history is memorialized.

The lake is also a good spot for anyone who simply wants to drop a fishing line, and there is also kayaking in Choccolocco Creek for those wanting to get even closer to the surrounding waters.

The park is home to more than 188 species of birds, placing it on the Alabama Birding Trail – part of the 2.7 total miles of walking and cycling trails available to enjoy.

An 18-hole disc golf course makes the park even more unique.

A fitness court is on site for those wanting to get in better shape with the help and guidance of specialized apps, and a playground for the kids is nearby to utilize their youthful energy.

Those same kids and families are even more energized when the holiday season arrives and the park is transformed into its annual Festival of Lights and Santa’s Village.

The park drew a total of 422,000 visits in 2024, with 169,000 visitors – many visiting more than twice during the year.

“Choccolocco Park continues to grow and prosper with support from our citizens and city council,” said Mayor Alton Craft. “They do amazing things out there. It’s a valuable asset to our community and, as it continues to grow, we expect bigger and better things.”
