Oxford Parks and Recreation keeps everyone moving

The Oxford Parks and Recreation Department is more than just green fields and gymnasiums; it’s a full network of activities for all ages designed to keep mind and body both healthy and active.

Choccolocco Park, Oxford Civic Center, Oxford Lake, Friendship and Bynum community centers, and the Oxford Senior Citizens Center all combine to make up a combination of recreational opportunities, ensuring there is never a dull moment in Oxford.

Recording almost one million visits over the past year shows that the citizens of Oxford are discovering how an active parks and recreation program enhances their quality of life.

Whether age 8 or 80, PARD has a program, class, or activity designed for each age group and for those who may not want to act their age and just have some fun in a safe environment.

Playing cards, dropping a fishing line, shooting baskets, playing with a bluegrass band, riding a bicycle, and learning arts and crafts are a very short list demonstrating how varied the many opportunities for fun and relaxation PARD provides on a daily basis.

“Parks and Recreation continues to evolve,” said Mayor Alton Craft. “From offering new types of sports such as disc golf and pickleball in addition to the traditional sports, they continue to grow and do an excellent job. It’s overwhelming to consider all the things this department provides for our citizens.”

Providing such a wide variety of activities for young and old alike is another point of pride causing Oxford to be Alabama at its best!
