It was a roster of 14 teams that could truly say with passion they had a prayer of winning.
Those were the teams that represented their churches in the Oxford Parks and Recreation church men’s softball league and played down to the final four on Monday, July 21, 2025, to decide the winners of the league’s two tiers.
The games all combined fierce competition, ending with a common fellowship and purpose.
First Baptist Church at Eagle Point was able to defeat Munford Baptist Church to take the Gold Tier trophy home to Jacksonville.
Scott Prater, minister of worship and students at Eagle Point, said the games were another way for church members to spend time together.
“These guys are a picture of what we are about – bringing people together and enjoying life together,” Prater said. “This isn’t about just meeting at a certain time, there are lots of places you can do that. When you enjoy life together, you serve the Lord together, have opportunities to minister together, that’s what being a church is all about.”
Church of the Highlands defeated the Grace Fellowship Navy team to win the Silver Tier championship.
“This was part of our Summer Small Groups semester, and we got a bunch of men together who wanted to play some softball,” said Church of the Highlands member Christian Cortez. “At the end of the day, we just want to build community. We’re representing Jesus – loving people and loving each other.”
The co-ed Church League single-elimination tournament will be held from August 11 to 15 at the Oxford Lake Park ballfields.
