More than 400 of the area’s senior citizens packed the Oxford Civic Center for the annual Valentine Senior Adult Day, sponsored by Oxford Parks and Recreation, held Monday, February 9, 2026.
Grace Radio 90.7 FM’s Jon Holder emceed the program, which included 14 lifestyle vendors, grab bags, snacks, dancing, 40 door prizes, and lunch.
PARD director Don Hudson said the city has hosted these free senior events since 1981.
Jack and Linda Gann of Lineville were named the king and queen of the day as their 67 years of marriage marked the longest of any couple in attendance.
Ryan Robertson and Alabama Rain, who have become a tradition at these events, provided a backdrop of fun and favorite standards with which to sing along and dance.
PARD hosts two free special senior days each year at the Civic Center, one on Valentine’s Day and the other in September after Labor Day, as well as several other senior events.
The city of Oxford offers a wide range of activities for senior citizens, many of whom already participate in programs at the Oxford Senior Citizens Center, located at 424 Main Street. The center is open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and can be reached by calling 256-831-5900.
