A League Of Our Own celebrates another winning season

A League Of Our Own celebrates another winning season

There were 62 winning smiles gathered at Talladega Superspeedway on Thursday, May 8, 2026, for a festive “end of season” celebration.

Those smiles belonged to players who participated in the 2026 A League Of Our Own softball season, the program established in 2015 to provide an inclusive sports league for individuals with special needs.

The players entered Big Bill’s Open Air Social Club at Talladega through a tunnel of bubbles and a greeting from the Oxford Police Department’s Paw Patrol mascot, ready for a feast of grilled hamburgers and hot dogs, preceded by treats from Kona Ice.

League founder Ginger Munroe greeted the players, congratulated them on their season, and encouraged them to continue their participation next year.

Special thanks were offered to the League sponsors who help make the program available at no cost to participants: Alabama Power, Thomas Shelton – Alfa Insurance, B&S Sporting Goods, Eastman, First Bank of Alabama, Five Rivers Property Management – Oxford Exchange, Saga Construction, Talladega Superspeedway, and Mayor Alton Craft and the Oxford City Council.

Munroe also thanked the ones “who are out there every Saturday making sure everything runs smoothly.”

Mayor Craft told the players they are an inspiration to him.

“You are tremendous young people,” Craft said. “You fill my heart every time I see you play.”

The players then gathered at the Talladega Winners Circle, where they were treated to a fly-by salute from the Oxford Police Department Aviation Unit and were presented with trophies and free passes to the 2026 Festival of Lights by Mayor Craft.

An announcement on information for the upcoming soccer season signups is expected in the near future.
