The city of Oxford was one of the seven Calhoun County municipalities receiving eight new books and 500 page holders for their libraries as part of an America 250 state grant project of the Calhoun County Chamber of Commerce and the Calhoun County Commission.

“We wanted to make sure all of our cities and our county took advantage of the America 250 Commission grant that was available through the state of Alabama,” said Visit Calhoun County Director Cher Dulaney. “We worked with the County Commission to ensure they obtained that grant, and this is the result. We decided what better way to make an impact than through our libraries.”

State Sen. Keith Kelley praised the work of the local libraries and said the librarian he knew as a child proved to him you could “take a book, read it, and be in any time period, on the battlefield, or in a foreign country.”

“Just look at what you can learn by those trips you take just by reading a book,” Kelley said.

Oxford’s books were received by Mayor Alton Craft, Oxford Public Library Director Amy Henderson, and County Commissioner Danny Shears.
